Advocacy
If you live in the state of New Hampshire, we ask you to reach out to Governor Ayotte and urge her to sign on to the lawsuit filed by 25 states against the federal government challenging the dismantling of AmeriCorps programs. We are the only state in New England that has not signed on to this lawsuit.
Our message
This program has been an efficient and effective partnership between the Lakes Region Conservation Corps and the 8 host site partners. The program grant funded member stipends, group training, and the position that coordinated the sites and managed agency compliance. The host sites fund supervisors, site and organization-specific training, housing, health care, and all projects.
This has meant that milfoil removal, which protects fish habitat, swimming, and boating as well as property value, has been done at a cost that is a fraction of that of other lakes. It has contained the cost of direct restoration, nutrient removal, and stopping legacy contaminants from entering our watersheds. LRCC has lead community science initiatives and surveyed microplastics and microbiology analysis to ensure the health of our watersheds. We have reached over 17,000 people through outdoor education programs and monitored numerous conservation easements. It has meant that the vast majority of our public programs have been offered free of charge, and it has meant hundreds of miles of trail have remained accessible, open and free to the public.
